AC152 Historic Boston - Granary Burial Ground

This is a photographic collection of a personal visit in the summer of 2005
of the Granary Burying Ground
on the Freedom Trail in Boston, MA

Founded in 1660 (Boston's 3rd oldest cemetery), Granary Burial Ground was originally called "South Burying Ground" because of its location in the southern area of the settlement.
As Boston expansion, it was renamed "Middle Burying Ground".
The present name derives from the granary which stood on the land where the Park Street Church now stands.
The cemetery has several famous Revolutionary-era patriots, including three signers of the Declaration of Independence: John Hancock, Robert Treat Paine and Samuel Adams.
Also buried here are Peter Faneuil, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin's parents and the victims of the Boston Massacre.

The cemetery is one of the first stops along the Freedom Trail, and boasts a variety of educational signs
